Worsley Alumina’s existing 35 year old on-site administration building had outgrown modern staff requirements and was in need of a full interior refurbishment.

Merge was engaged to design a modern open-plan office space and meeting room hub, covering 2500m² of floor space. A clever concept saw the existing structural column grid concealed within desk layout and custom joinery, maximising the seating capacity of the open plan work zone and achieving storage requirements. Well thought-out conference, focus and quiet rooms provide many options for staff discussions, whether it be a formal meeting, a private chat or quiet breakaway.

The main aesthetic features such as the timber slatted bulkheads and the wall fabric panelling also double up as acoustic solutions, addressing the noise created by an open-plan office concept. An abundance of planting was incorporated to tie in with the existing ground floor courtyard garden, to inject life into the corporate space and provide adequate screening between workstations.
